IMPROVING HOOSIER LIVES, ONE BEHAVIOR AT A TIME
What is Behavior Management?
Behavior Management (BMAN) services provide hands-on training to promote positive changes in the lives of our clients and their families. With proven, evidence-based, positive behavior management strategies, individuals will see positive behaviors increase, while challenging/harmful behaviors decrease. Utilizing behavior management services will enhance the quality of life of the individuals we serve, their family members, teachers, caretakers, and all other loved ones.
"Beneath each behavior is a feeling, and beneath each feeling is a need. When we meet the need rather than focus on the behavior, we can begin to cope with the cause, not the symptom."
- Ashleigh Warner, Family Psychologist
The Fundamentals of Success
Functional Behavior Analysis
Behavior consultants at New Leaf will partner with individuals, their family members, and caretakers to collaborate and target challenging behaviors to determine the reason why they're occurring. This is done through an assessment called the Functional Behavior Analysis. This information is vital in order to create an effective Behavior Support Plan.
Behavior Support Plan
An individualized Behavior Support Plan (BSP) will then be created by your behavior consultant for the family & team members to implement. A BSP outlines how to proactively prevent a behavior, what to do if a behavior occurs, how to teach positive replacement strategies, and much more. Consistent use of a BSP by all team members can in time increase positive behaviors.
Weekly Behavior Supports
The true key to success is consistency. Weekly sessions with your behavior consultant either in the home or out in the community, along with consistent BSP implementation by all team members, will assist individuals in learning replacements strategies that'll help them communicate their wants and needs in positive ways. These techniques can overtime eliminate challenging behaviors altogether.
Licensed Psychologist Review
New Leaf requires all Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) created by behavior consultants to be reviewed, adjusted (if needed), and approved by a licensed psychologist, along with routine collaboration meetings. These requirements are enforced with the intent to ensure that the most ethical and appropriate practices are being implemented at all times.
Behavior Management Goals and Outcomes
The following are potential goals and outcomes that individuals can work toward achieving with their New Leaf behavior consultant. These are just a few broad examples, as the goals of behavior management extend much further past this list.
